Lionfish (1990s NYC band) [16 Oct 2012|11:07am]

balmofgilead
This is kind of a stretch, but has anyone heard of the band Lionfish? They were active in NYC in the 90s, fronted by L.P. (Laura Pergolizzi) who later branched out on her own and is finally making it in the LA music industry.

I'd love to hear some of her really old stuff. Someone's now selling one of Lionfish's old CDs on Amazon for $45, but that's a lot for something I haven't even heard, and it's not like the group is getting royalties.

If anyone can point me to another way to hear it, that'd be awesome.

Be Heard Be Part of Research [16 Mar 2012|05:38pm]

lbqresearch

Hi,

I definitely love lesbian music, I'm excited about Michfest this year because I actually haven't heard of most of the artists, and can't wait to become a fan!

My name is Rischa I’m a lesbian, doing research with our community.
I am passionate about research because professionals use studies like this one to make decisions about our health care.

I was hoping that you would want to get involved, especially by spreading the word on FB, Blogs, (real friends) Etc.

For this study, we are looking for women (trans-community included) 18 years of age or older, who self-identify as lesbian, bisexual, queer, or questioning (LBQ). The purpose of this study is to learn about gender presentation and substance use in LBQ women.

http://www.lbqresearch.wordpress.com.

This study had been approved by the St. John’s University IRB. Thank you for your time.

So does anyone remember the Butchies? Best southern Queer band EVER!

Anyway, I have it on good authority that they are playing a REUNION show on July 21 at Cat's Cradle in Carrboro. Tami Hart from Mkng Frndz will be playing, as will locals Pink Flag... They have some free mp3s up on their website and you should check them out.

Also, just in case you forgot how awesome the Butchies are:

Tell Obama and Holder: Stop defending DOMA. [16 Jun 2009|05:57pm]

girl_luv2talk
Dear Friend,

They compared same-sex marriage to a marriage between an uncle and a niece. Or between
two children. No, we're not talking about Rick Santorum. We're talking about the Obama
administration's Justice Department. The brief the DOJ presented defending the Defense of
Marriage Act (DOMA) in federal court was not just wrong. It was offensive. The New York
Times called it "disturbing" in its lead editorial.

Back in the days of the 2008 campaign, Senator Obama promised he would work to overturn
the Defense of Marriage Act. But now that a gay couple in California is challenging DOMA
in federal court, President Obama has chosen to take action to defend a law that prevents
legally married same-sex couples from receiving any federal benefits, or from having
their marriages recognized in other states.

I just signed a petition to tell President Obama and Attorney General Holder to withdraw
this offensive brief and apologize for its contents. (The website also has a great video
of Rachel Maddow and Howard Dean discussing the importance of this issue!) Please have a
look and take action.

I've really been into this musician lately. I was lucky enough to see her (and I'm not sure if this is the correct pronoun, so forgive me if it is not) perform a couple weeks ago. A.J. is very friendly and quite gorgeous. She's touring the Northeast, so check her out if you're able. My favorite song is 'white picket fences' which you can hear on the myspace page:

Just a follow-up [18 Mar 2009|07:31pm]

stargazer1960
If anyone is following this community, a while back I asked about finding chords for Michelle Malone's songs. One of my high school students suggested www.ultimate-guitar.com and I found one Michelle song, but they also had over a hundred Indigo Girls songs and other hard-to-find artists.

So, if you play, you might want to check it out. My MacAfee spyware detector didn't throw up any red flags like it did on chorde.com and some other sites.

Question about chord charts [07 Mar 2009|10:18am]

stargazer1960
I can usually pick up chord books for the Indigo Girls, Bonnie Raitt, and others pretty easily. I enjoy singing Michelle Malone's stuff quite a bit, but it's harder to find her chord progressions published.

Any good websites to find tabs and chords for Michelle Malone?

Ellis [11 Jan 2009|09:23pm]

Last night, I went to see Ellis in concert for the first time. She was totally not what I expected. From her (really attractive and androgynous) appearance, I expect her to be serious and somber. Instead, she was totally adorable and funny. She told stories and jokes, and she has this awesome infectious, goofy laugh that made everyone watching laugh as well. She was earnest and endearing, and the whole time I was watching her I had this huge smile on my face.

Abisha Uhl of 'Sick of Sarah' [03 Jan 2009|02:39pm]

abcdyke
Here are 10 Reasons Why I Heart Abisha...

1.) She's oh so hot
2.) She was raised in Japan
3.) Her name is Abisha, which is awesome
4.) Her incredible voice: she has a great range and can make her voice break musically

5.) When she sings the acoustic version of a song, she's able to sing more than one vocal part, which I find amazing
6.) Musically, she does all these little things from different genres... for example, she scats, which is Jazz, and she sings these interjections (i.e. "pick it up") which is kind of ska
7.) She kinda looks femme, but sometimes she acts all butch

8.) A friend of mine recently said "I notice a pattern with the bands you like: hot women with a hint of goofiness." Accurate, no?
9.) Her hands, especially the way she gestures them
10.) She's really hot... I know I said that already, but it bears repeating

What are you doing this weekend? 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk [06 Aug 2008|08:07pm]

crazy4mle
My girlfriend Julie is participating in the 3 day Breast Cancer Walk, which is being held in Chicago and thirteen cities across the US this year.

Julie will walk 20 miles on Friday while most of us are working, she will walk 20 miles on Saturday while most of us are running errands or enjoying the day at our leisure, and on Sunday she will walk 20 miles while most of us are relaxing and spending time with loved ones.

I'm proud to say that this weekend, August 8th-10th, my girlfriend Julie will walk 60 miles in 3 days for the women who are fighting for their lives against breast cancer while the rest of us are hoping for a cure.

Please consider donating to this heroic cause for the people in your life who have been affected by breast cancer and for the people who will be affected if this disease isn't cured.

Please visit her donation page by clicking on the image below:
